Crystal cross from Mission San Luis, Tallahassee

An Intriguing Artifact

This unique quartz crystal cross was found by archaeologists in the church at Mission San Luis in Tallahassee. Photomicrography revealed how the cross was made and suggests it was the work of a native artisan. This may be evidence of the Indians' religious conversion and their adoption of Christian symbols.
