2013 Small Matching Grants Solicitation Period
The purpose of this notice is to formally announce that the Florida Department of State is currently soliciting applications for Small Matching Grant-in-Aid assistance for historic preservation projects.
The solicitation period begins September 1, 2011, and extends through November 15, 2011. A preview of the online application is available at www.flheritage.com/grants/preservation grants and submissions of the application will be accepted beginning September 1, 2011. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on November 15, 2011. Application attachments must be delivered to the Bureau of Historic Preservation, R. A. Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0250 no later than 5:00 p.m., November 15, 2011, OR be clearly postmarked on or before November 15, 2011, OR show evidence of submission to an express mail service on or before November 15, 2011. Arrangements for the submission of paper applications may be made by calling the Bureau at 850.245.6333 or toll free at 1.800.847.7278.

Special consideration will be given to proposals that reflect the goals and purposes of the Viva Florida 500 Initiative. FY 2013 Certified Local Government Training Programs Grant Application Solicitation
The Division of Historical Resources' Historic Preservation Grants-in-Aid Program announces a May 1 – June 29, 2012 grant application solicitation to award grants to hold one of four Regional Florida Certified Local Government (CLG) Training programs throughout the State of Florida. These regional historic preservation training programs, which may take the form of workshops, conferences, seminars, and hands-on educational activities or combinations thereof, will be funded with Federal Fiscal Year 2012 Historic Preservation Funds. The Division will award four grants each in the amount of $16,500 to the selected CLGs for the purpose of holding one of the four Regional Florida CLG Training Programs. The selected CLGs will enter into a Grant Award Agreement with the Division of Historical Resources to provide the services described below. No match is required for this solicitation.

The Florida Main Street Program will host a Pre-Application webinar for future Main Street Community prospects. The purpose of the webinar is to learn more about the Main Street Program and the application process for designation. The webinar will include instruction on completing the application, and we will take questions over the phone and on an instant message board during the webinar. Join Mission San Luis Archaeologist Heidi Edgar for a presentation on trash pits, and why archaeologists love them! This discussion will delve into the underappreciated entities known as trash pits – examining their life cycle and how they ended up full of garbage. Whether it is 2013 or 1699, what people throw away reveals a great deal about their culture and day-to-day lives, and the trash pits at San Luis tell an important tale about the residents of the Mission over 300 years ago.

The Flintlock School at Mission San Luis is designed as a program to recruit and train interested individuals as living history volunteers. Participants will learn to safely load and fire an 18th-century flintlock, using a modified form of the 1728 Spanish Infantry Drill.
