St.uart LYRIC THEATRE 59 SW Flagler Ave. 1926. Mediterranean Revival, Beaux-Arts elements. John N. Sherwood, architect. 2 stories. Played a very important social and recreational function in Stuart before World War II. Presently a performing arts theater. Private. N.R. 1993.
Vicinity of St.uart HOUSE OF REFUGE AT GILBERT'S BAR Hutchinson Island. 1876. Frame Vernacular. 2 stories, erected on pilings, clapboarding, covered by shingles. Following a hurricane in 1873 in which a crew from a wrecked vessel came ashore on Hutchinson Island and found no shelter, the U.S. Government ordered a refuge to be built. Eventually 10 were constructed on Florida's east coast. Deactivated in 1940. Museum. Public. N.R. 1974.
