Vicinity of Bushnell DADE BATTLEFIELD HISTORIC MEMORIAL 1 mi. SW of junction of U.S. 301 and Fl. 476. 1835. On December 28, 1835, Seminole Indians, resisting forced relocation to the West, ambushed a detachment of 108 Federal troops led by Major Francis L. Dade. Only 3 soldiers survived. This incident led to the 7-year Second Seminole War. Museum. Public. N.R. 1972.
