Application Cycles Opening

The Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources will open the FY2026 application cycles for Small Matching and Special Category grants and the FY2025 application cycle for Abandoned African-American Cemeteries grants on April 1, 2024, and close them at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern) on June 3, 2024. Applications will be accepted online at dosgrants.com. Applications will only be accepted electronically and must be complete to be considered for evaluation.

The purpose of the Small Matching and Special Category grant programs is to provide funding to assist local, regional and state-wide efforts to preserve significant historic and archaeological resources, and to promote knowledge and appreciation of the history of Florida. The purpose of the Abandoned African-American Cemeteries grant program is to assist research institutions, colleges, universities, or qualified non-profit organizations in researching abandoned African-American cemeteries and to assist local governments or qualified non-profit organizations in protecting and preserving abandoned African-American cemeteries.

“How to Apply” webinars will be held on April 11 and 18, 2024. These webinars will provide useful information to possible applicants on applying for division grant funding, including how to access the grant application online, basic grant program information, content of the grant application, and the application review process. Grant Application Review Meetings

The Small Matching Grant Panel reviewed and scored eligible FY2025 Small Matching grant applications on October 4, 2023. The Small Matching Final Ranking Project Lists below were approved by the Secretary of State and will be recommended to the Legislature for funding. Additional information on the grant funding process can be found in the  Small Matching Grant Guidelines.

The Florida Historical Commission reviewed and scored eligible FY2025 Special Category grant applications on September 27, 2023. The Special Category Final Ranking Project List below was approved by the Secretary of State and will be recommended to the Legislature for funding. Additional information on the grant funding process can be found in the Special Category Grant Guidelines.

 

Historic Preservation Grants Program Overview

The Historic Preservation Grants Program allocates state funds appropriated by the Legislature and federal funds apportioned to the state by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, for the preservation and protection of the state's historic and archaeological sites and properties. The program is administered by the Division of Historical Resources, Florida Department of State and is governed by rules in Chapter 1A-39, Florida Administrative Code and Section 267.0617, Florida Statutes.

Two types of grants are awarded through this program: Small Matching Grants and Special Category Grants. Please see the respective pages for further information. 

Those eligible to apply for grant funding include state agencies, state universities, non-profit organizations, units of local government, cities, towns, and counties. Private property owners are not eligible for state grant funding from the Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources.
