The Florida Department of State's Division of Historical Resources will co-sponsor the annual LEGO Block Party on Friday, August 26, during Florida State University's Seminole Sensation Week. The LEGO event will incorporate the theme of Florida history, encouraging students to design creations reflecting Florida’s historic sites, people and places.

The Division's Architectural Preservation Services Architect, Phillip Wisley, and Architectural Historian, Ginny Jones, will serve as contest judges. The LEGO Block Party will take place at Florida State University's Askew Student Life Center in Room 101, on Friday, August 26th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., with judging at 9:00 p.m. Following the event, an on-line gallery will display the LEGO creations at www.flheritage.com.

Viva Florida 500 - Sponsorship of the LEGO Block Party is one of a variety of statewide events commemorating the 500th anniversary of Ponce de Leon's arrival in Florida and promoting the entirety of Florida's cultures and history. In anticipation of Florida's 500th anniversary in 2013, The Department will be working to showcase Florida's diverse heritage and communities The Viva Florida 500 initiative is dedicated to the commemoration of Florida's rich and diverse cultural history. The Department's Divisions of Cultural Affairs, Historical Resources, and Library & Information Services excel in the role of stewardship by providing outstanding services throughout Florida's communities through grant programming, educational opportunities, research, and preservation of artifacts and historical documentation. The Florida Department of State is proud to be a custodian and advocate of Florida's culture, arts and history. Together these components enhance the vitality and economics of our state through improved education, increased tourism, job creation, revitalization of our downtown and rural areas, and the overall quality of life in Florida.
