Architectural Preservation Services

Architectural Preservation Services Image

Provides architectural technical assistance to the public on historic rehabilitation projects, provides architectural support for all Bureau programs (especially important in the review of grant applications), reviews applications for federal tax credits for the rehabilitation of historic properties, reviews applications for ad valorem tax relief projects in communities not qualified to review locally, and administers the Florida Main Street Program.

Compliance Review

Compliance Review

Reviews development projects of all types and provides technical assistance on preservation laws to ensure compliance with state and federal laws mandating consideration of a project's impact on historic and archaeological properties, assists in the preparation of historic preservation elements for state land management plans, reviews the historic preservation aspects of local government comprehensive plans, and administers the Florida Certified Local Government Program.

Survey & Registration

Survey & Registration

Prepares and processes nominations of significant historic resources to the National Register of Historic Places, provides technical assistance to the public on survey and registration activities, and prepares the statewide comprehensive historic preservation plan required for continued federal approval of the state historic preservation program.

Master Site File

Master Site File

Maintains the paper file archive and computer data base of all recorded historical structures and archaeological sites in Florida. Also contains over 10,000 unpublished manuscripts relating to Florida archaeology, history, and historic preservation. These include field survey reports, archaeological excavation reports, historic structure reports, and cultural resource management plans.

Florida Folklife Program

Florida Folklife Program

Documents and presents the folklife, folklore, and folk arts of the state and coordinates a wide range of activities and projects designed to increase the awareness of Floridians and visitors about our traditional culture. Includes programs such as annual surveys on selected topics to identify and document folklife, the Florida Folk Heritage Awards, the Folklife Apprenticeship Program, the Statewide Outreach Initiative (Folklife Institutes, Festival Outreach, and Folklife Radio Shows), the Florida Heritage Education Program, and Folklife Days.

Grants Services

Administers grants programs for resource surveys, preservation planning, heritage education, restoration or rehabilitation of historic structures, history museum exhibits, and archaeological excavations.
